Spinach, the Powerhouse of SuperFoods, it Packs a Wallop of Nutrition!

For most people, mentioning the word "spinach" brings up memories of that infamous cartoon character "Popeye", and bad food. This "green food" certainly has had a bad rap.

I can remember my mom opening cans of the stuff, and heating it in a pan, served with hard boiled eggs...it wasn't something we could pass off to the dog.

Flash forward, times have changed. Think super food. According to Dr Pratt, author of book Super Foods, when it comes to leafy greens, this green tops them all.

"Along with salmon and blue berries, this leafy green has demonstrated more health benefits than almost any other food." says Dr Pratt. Greens are a powerhouse of fiber, vitamins, enzymes, and mineral.

Greens aid in fighting diseases such as heart disease, cancers, and cataracts.

You say you can't do spinach and you want alternatives? Dr. Pratt lists sidekicks that closely mirror the power of spinach. They are

*orange bell peppers*

*romaine lettuce*

*bok choy*

*turnip green*

*mustard greens*

*Swiss chard*

*collards, and*

*kale*

SuperFoods RX is a modern day presription to better health. The book is not a guide to making smoothies, but it is an excellent guide at a wide spectrum of healthy foods you can easily make part of your everyday meal planning, including smoothies.

Today, you can purchase most healthy greens, ready to serve, fresh, in your supermarket. Most of it comes pre-washed, and in more manageable portions, ready to use. In her book the Green Smoothies Diet, author Robyn Openshaw's discusses which greens are better, and why. Robyn cites extensive research as well as years of personal experience incorporating greens into her diet of smoothies.

Insider Note; In chapter 5, Robyn makes use of a nutrition guide chart outlining which greens have the most vitamins and mineral, and clearly, spinach is a winner.

Also, her chapter on "Why Green Foods", although short, makes very compelling arguments about the nutritional power of green vegetables.

Now, this will take a leap of faith on your part...and if you do, you will be surprised...Green Smoothies Are Delicious...when made correctly. The Green Smoothies Recipe Page will guide you on how to make "basic green smoothies".

The Smoothie Insider encourages you to try them, and experiment with them. It is one of the easiest ways to add a serving or two of vegetables to your daily diet. Talk about the ultimate vegetable nutrition! This is it!
